Leaving a Legacy to MWC

The Museums of Western Colorado offers the experience of discovery to all ages, from children just beginning to engage in history to senior volunteers continuing a lifelong passion for knowledge. The Museums of Western Colorado (MWC) has a proud responsibility of facilitating three distinctively different museum sites, each holding treasures of our past.

The Museum of the West houses relics of our Western Slope heritage, Dinosaur Journey holds priceless fossils of our planet, and Cross Orchards Historic Site chronicles agriculture, transportation, and living history in our Grand Valley. Our integrated curricula for multiple grade levels offers teachers extended resources to encourage investigative, observational, and critical thinking in their students. Family programs provide important opportunities for parents to learn along with their children.

The Museums of Western Colorado honors friends and supporters who include the Museum in their estate plans. Many people include their family name in various ways depending upon the designation of their gift. This past year, a gift from the Coffer Estate has been special to the Museum because it provided resources to replace the roofs of the Cross Orchards office building and bridal suite/gallery building. The roofs have been in poor condition and have been in need of replacement for quite some time to prevent further deterioration of the buildings.

The office building houses the curator’s office, the craft room, collection storage, and a full kitchen while the gallery building showcases the agricultural and transportation history of the Grand Valley. The gallery building also serves as a bridal suite to accommodate bridal parties during their weddings. This estate gift will truly be a lasting legacy for Cross Orchards.

In addition to the Coffer endowment, donations from the Tipping family allowed Cross Orchards to completely rebuild the orchard irrigation system. Additional apple trees have been planted thanks to the generosity of the Montezuma Orchard Restoration Project.

Planned gifts help ensure that the Museums of Western Colorado remains a vibrant source of inspiration for generations to come. Your gift can support any aspect of the Museum—expansion and care of the collections, curatorial research and exhibitions, statewide educational matching fund initiatives, and capital improvements to the buildings and campuses. MWC is committed to developing planned gifts that are meaningful to each donor and tailored to their financial and estate-planning goals.

Careful financial estate planning can be beneficial to you and your family and can allow you to leave an enduring legacy that will support the future of the Museum. We do recommend that you seek the advice of a tax consultant or financial advisor when considering these, or any other, planned giving options.
