3/12/15 - 3/12/15 : Changing Landscapes of Science Lecture - Technology VI

Bigger is Better: Digital Laser Scanning and Sculpture Enlargement
Presented by Forrest Hoskins, Owner, Moonscapes 3-D

Moonscapes 3D is a Western-Colorado based company that specializes in scale enlargements and reductions. Started in 2000 by Forrest Hoskins and David Moon, Moonscapes 3D has assisted over 100 artists in speeding the enlargement process. As the only large-scale business of its kind in Colorado, Moonscapes 3D, has offered sculpture enlargement capabilities and digital laser scanning services to sculptors world-wide. Rather than spend months on the arduous clay-up process, they have helped artists by creating perfect, to-scale foam versions that only require a quick clay-up and details before heading off to the foundry. Forrest Hoskins will explain this technology and show examples of how the technology has been used to create large-scale works of fine art.

Mr. Hoskins has a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from East Carolina University. Prior to starting Moonscapes 3D, he worked at another local company, GPD Global, as the Supervisor of Electrical Prototyping. In this role, he was responsible for designing and building control systems for robotic work cells, and for the electro/mechanical devices manufactured by GPD Global. He has extensive experience with digital photography, 3-D scanning and printing, and sculpture enlargement -- all processes that are used in his work at Moonscapes 3D.
