Cross Orchards Historic Site might be closed for the season but, as on all farms, there is work to be done all year round.
One current project is our orchard renewal. We are locating irrigation pipes, clearing them of debris. Mesa Conservation District collected soil samples from 9 locations. When the tests come back we will make further plans for the orchard renewal.
One of the nurseries we will be getting trees from this spring is the Montezuma Orchard Restoration Project. MORP is based in Cortez, Colorado, and they offer vintage apple trees to individuals and organizations. Their goal is to maintain the rich agricultural history of Colorado, a goal we share here at Cross Orchards. Find us on Facebook here to keep up with our projects!
