Spiffing up DJ

A call to help with Spring Cleaning at Dinosaur Journey on Friday, February 27 brought in 18 people. Painting, dusting, washing, vacuuming, and more dusting . . . 18 hard-working and, by the end of the day, very tired people.

Wow! How did they do that?!

Armed with a 15′ paint roller extension pole, 3 tiers of scaffolding, Big Bertha and a zillion gallons of paint, the DJ paint army tackled the 20′ high ceiling paint job.  Wow.


5.3 Earthquake Strikes Fruita

Just kidding.
But Dinosaur Journey’s earthquake simulator has been redone with brand new coats of paint, larger photos of the aftermaths of earthquakes in 1906 and 1989, a refurbished model of our local Redlands Fault, and its own “earthquake damage.” The simulator still shakes visitors with a magnitude 5.3 earthquake (plus aftershock) as it has for years.

Dinosaur Journey Exhibit News

A new addition was made today to the Dinosaur Journey Museum. Happy the sauropod moved from the Grand Junction Visitor and Convention Bureau to the Museum.  He now greets guests with his toothy mouth full of ginkgo leaves as they first enter the Museum.
Happy’s neck is a little over 8 feet long and weighed an awkward ~150 pounds.

Museum Awarded Funding From GJ Lion’s Club

The Grand Junction Lion’s Club awarded the Museum of Western Colorado a total of $16,300 in funding for improvements for the Paleo Exhibits at their Dinosaur Journey site and for upgrading computers.

Moving day at DJ

Dr. John Foster and Don Kerven move a T-rex pubis to a new area as part of the Dinosaur Journey remodel project.
The pubis was discovered in South Dakota in 1998 and now part of the Museum’s permanent collections.
