Cross of Ages Rock

Snyder Grand Valley Memorials donated a crane and men to move John Otto’s Cross of Ages Rock that he created in 1915. The rock was moved to its new location at the entrance to the Museum of The West.

E Clampus Vitus, the Al Packer Chapter, a fraternal organization dedicated to the preservation of western heritage, dedicated a new John Otto bronze plaque to interpret the stone on Saturday, September 12, at 10:00 a.m.  Alan Kania, author of the book John Otto and the Colorado National Monument, was also on hand to speak to the crowd.

The stone has a swastika on it that people mistake for a Nazi emblem, but actually was a Native American symbol for luck and balance in 1915.
